Hi all.... I liked Firefox so much that I decided to also try out
Thunderbird and I have a couple of questions.

I would like to download my email on startup. I found the solution
at the Thunderbird tips and tricks page. It said that I would have
to create a file called user.js and add the following code.

// Download mail from all accounts on startup
user_pref("mail.check_all_imap_folders_for_new", true);

I created the file using notepad and pasted the code into it
then saved it as user.js For some reason this did not work.
Can somebody enlighten me ?

Surely you just tick the box in Tools/Account_settings/Server_settings?

I had the same problem - the message filter was not being run
automatically at startup or when new messages arrived. I found that in
the <Message Filters> options window the box "Filters for:" was set to
"Local Folders". When I went to the pull down, I saw another entry above
this (in my case "Jim" - my username). When I selected this instead of
"Local Folders" everything worked just fine - new email was
automatically filtered and the filters were run on startup.
