I`ve just switched to Thunderbird, still setting it up as I want.
Can anyone tell me if the message filters can be set to run automatically on
receipt of mail, or, second best, can one make a "run filters" button on the
toolbar.
I have been to "help" but didn`t find anything.
Thanks

I have about 9 filters, and they all run on receipt of mail. They are
just 'enabled' in the filters view.

Thunderbird works like mozilla mail. So, since I have mozilla mail here,
I tell you how mozilla mail filters work.

The filters run automatically on receipt of mail. Check if the filter is
enabled in Message Filters.

I don't think you can put a "run filters" button on the toolbar.
If you want to run all filters on a folder select the folder, then
Tools-Run filters on folder.
If you want to run a specific filter: tools-message filters-select a
filter, select a folder for the filter to run-click run now.

I am seeing exactly the same behavior. I have several filters - all of
which are enabled. New email is not filtered (either at startup or
ones that arrive while Thunderbird is open). The filters work just
fine when I select "Run Filters on Folder".

I too woould like to know what I might need to do to set this up
properly.

That`s a relief, I was beginning to think it was just me.
My set of filters are also enabled so it`s not that, maybe it`s just a bug
in our particular version? I`ll try dl`ing a different build.

Bob: I think I may have found the problem. The message filter was not
being run automatically when in the <Message Filters> window the box
"Filters for:" was set to "Local Folders". When I went to the pull down,
I saw another entry above (in my case, cleverly named "Jim"). When I
selected this instead of "Local Folders" everything worked just fine -
new email was automatically filtered and the filters were run on
startup. Give it a try.

Great, that`s it, now Thunderbird is a keeper :-)
Thanks.
