Mozilla resource question

I've been having problems with Mozilla since downloading v7.1. However even
before that, Mozilla used a lot of system resources. It usually runs at
55,000k in contrast to Avant which runs at 10,000k. Is this typical for
those of you using Mozilla? Does firefox use less resources?

Firefox here, with 3 windows open, is running at 28,300

Avant is a skin though, so does it not use other system resources which
may not be as apparent ?

And either way, Firefox is better is so many ways to IE or Avant - both
of which I have used previously.

Firefox 0.9 is consuming 13.9MB of RAM on my system.

Both Mozilla and Firefox can consume a lot of ram if you let them run
for hours. My Mozilla here has gotten up to 99 Megs of ram usage, and
Firefox has climbed up to about 70 megs at times. It's normal for both.

Yes. Mozilla, IMHO, is a memory/resource hog. (to run it correctly I need at
least 128MB RAM).

Firefox, on the other side, runs fine with 32MB RAM here.
Just a bit slow to load, but this may be because I have lots of extensions.

AIDA32 reports 16 meg used when Mozilla.exe version 1.71 is active.
No problems at all with it here on Win ME.

I now run Firefox on 98SE and it's much less of a resource hog than IE6 -
as I was prone to crash through unexpected popup/unders I always have
quickresource running and FF uses much less.

Also FWIW, the shut down is a helluva sight quicker now I don't use IE6 and
OE6; it turns off almost before I hit the button

FF is consuming 11 MB now, while downloading the Smoke Attack game :) , with
two tabs opened and seven extensions installed.

Actually, I believe that most of the browsers use a lot of ram once they've
been running for hours or days. Even Opera gets up there quite high as
well. And I think IE would be using a lot too except that quite a bit of
IE is embedded in the operating system, so you just don't see what it's
actually using..

Anyway, just my 2 cents worth.
