Sorry guys, I tried out Mozilla 1.7 and wasn't very impressed, how do I get
my Internet explorer 6 browser back?

How could you not be impressed? Do you LIKE multi-popups etc etc? Do you NOT
like tabbed browsing instead of the many-window mayhem of IE? Try Firefox,
the latest stand-alone browser from Mozilla. MUCH better than IE! And NO
script flaws.

Give Firebird another try, or try Mozilla instead, from which Firebird
derives. True, there are some sites it won't work with -- sites which have
been designed to use non-standard Microsoft features, and sites where the
designer has been too lazy to target standards-compliant browsers, for which
you'll need IE -- but that's the price you pay for Microsoft's failure to
fully embrace the standards.

Re IE, you never un-installed it, so it is still there. To let it become
the default browser again, just run it and click Tools, Internet Options,
Programs, and click on the bottom checkbox. Then close IE and reopen it.

i'm sorry to hear you've devolved to a microsoft
automoton. but here's one for you:

i made a site that uses javascript to submit. something
that should be avaailable since that is in the scripting
standards from the w3c as well as the netscape javascript
outline for those that want to be compliant with them
(most of javascript and the w3c emdc script (do i have
the right acronym here?) are the same) but it's not in
jscript, which has no real relation to either of those.

the only time something doesnt work is when it requires
microsoft instead of being compatible with standards. any
truely professional designer would be coding to standards
unless asked otherwise.

on the other hand i have gone to hundreds of sites that
are standards compliant and ie will not display
correctly. why? because, simply put, until they make it
understand w3c standards, it is not compatible .

1.7 is a beta. if you;re trying software, never go with a
beta. unless you like the previous and are used to it.
use 1.6 instead. it will replace outlook and ie.

it uses tabs, or if you like the 50 million windows you
can do that, you can turn tabbing off, though you should
know it takes far mor resources to make a new window than
a new tab.

you may like having 50 million pop ups on every page, but
mozilla's blocking of pop ups can easily be turned off.

mozilla has not gone to end of life. ie has. if you
really want to use it, microsoft is really proving that
they ARE a trust because of the fact they wont even let
me put on the real java 2 runtime/development
environment. that every time anything is installed it
reverts to microsoft products instead of what i want.
what i set.

had the operating system been split from the software
like it should have been, then it would no longer be a
trust.

Firefox still doesn't save .mht files (single file web pages) and on at
least one web page I visited, it didn't display most of what was there.
I suspect that was java-related, but shouldn't the latest and greatest
Firefox have that capability? I switched back to IE and the page
displayed correctly.

Tabbed browsing does not impress me. I can do the same thing by opening
new pages in a new window.

Also, I could not get the skins to download and install despite much
trying. IE skins install perfectly.

So tell me again what I'm missing?

well if all else fails, have a look at this:

Pretty ugly, I'll grant you that.

The answer is, to do what a lot of people do, and use both! (I run IE and
Firefox)

Perhaps you can clarify something for me. Is there a separate "Mozilla"
browser, independent of Firefox, or are they the same? It seems the
Mozilla suite of apps includes a browser, but I didn't see where the
browser alone could be downloaded. Admittedly, I didn't spend a lot of
time looking.

Wrong way round. Mozilla is a suite, that includes a browser. Firefox, the
next-generation of Mozilla, is a stand-alone browser.

Mozilla is a suite, including a browser, email program, etc. The browser is
based on the Gecko engine.

Firefox is a browser only, based on the Gecko engine. The companion
eMail/newsgroup program is Thunderbird. Both are betas, with Firefox very
close to being a released product.

Netscape 7 is a suite, including a browser, email program, etc. The browser
is based on the Gecko engine. It is not updated as often as Mozilla and
Firebird are, so usually uses an older, less capable, less secure version of
the Gecko engine: Netscape 7.2 will likely come out soon, and will use the
same version of the Gecko engine as the current versions of Mozilla and
Firefox.

There are a number of other browsers or browser suites based on the Gecko
engine, including Compuserve (uses a VERY old engine), AOL for OS X (also
uses an old version of the engine), Camino for OS X (uses an up-to-date
engine), and the IBM Web Browser for OS/2 (uses a fairly recent version).

- Have you tried to install Java JRE 1.5.0? With it installed, FFirefox
supports all Java extensions on any web...

P.D: Also, don't forget to install Macromedia Flash plugin, and then you'll
have full compatibility for 90% of internet web pages..

- Tabbed browsing powa. I hate to have 10000's of windows opened when I can
surf through all my webs with only one.

- Have you tested the skins system with Firefox 1.0? Previous versions have
a problem with skin system. Also, be sure that you're trying to download
skins for 1.0, and that you've allowed the skins site to download software
from it.

See? It's not as difficult xP
