Could anybody please tell me which file has the bookmarks and is it
possible to copy the old file on top of the file in a new install.

It may vary depending on your OS, but it will likely be in something like
Documents & Settings - Administrator - Application Data - Mozilla -
Profiles - default - something.slt - bookmarks.html

Do a search for all files called bookmarks.html & you'll find it.

The new install shouldn't write over the bookmarks file, but to be sure,
you could copy the bookmarks file to another folder, then copy it back when
you've finished the intall.

Thanks for your reply. I am running win98. The HTML files I found in the
Mozilla
folder do not show my bookmarks, just the default bookmarks that are
loaded at install.
I did not find any .slt files.

I, too. Have two Mozilla user profiles. They are in
windows/application data/mozilla/<username>/<randomnumber>. Back up your
whole profile; it'll make you feel better, although, I've used moz since
v1.3.1 and never lost any data during an upgrade. OTOH, some of the
extensions and add-ons must be re-installed, a minor PITA.

Use your search feature looking for "bookmark*.*" without
the quotes. It should find every occurance on you machine.
The file you are lookng for is bookmarks.html. It is the
same file format as in the last several versions of
Netscape. If you have an old file that has bookmarks you
want to keep, you can use the "Manage Bookmarks" option
under the bookmark menu to import them into your current
file. It will blend them into your current file along with
the ones that are already there. To backup the bookmark
file, you can export them to a file and location of your
choice using the .html extension. You can manually edit the
bookmark file also. If you do not already have it,
AMDeadlink will help you sort them and locate unneeded dupes
as well as finding and culling bad or defunct links. When
done, it will save the file for you.

IT's a folder, not a file, and it will be hidden unless you
set Windows to show you everything.

Thanks for all the replies. I have now been able to find my profile
folder and bookmark html file. My hard drive has 2 partions and I was
searching D drive only as that is where Mozila is installed. With your
help I discovered that my profile folder was in C drive.
