If I have XP on a master HD in an old computer and then try to move it to a
new machine, would I have to re-install XP or would it be fine. I've never
tried it before and I have all driver disks I'd need.

I have done it before, and it can be done. I think any earlier versions
of Windows would have a fit tho, I think...

Oh, and make sure you install the drivers for the IDE contorller BEFORE
you switch them over. I have a 4 year old MoBo with Highpoint 33/66
controller that WinXP doesn't support out of the box, and won't boot
without the drivers...

If cars had advanced at the same rate as Micr0$oft technology, they'd be
flying by now.
But who wants a car that crashes 8 times a day?

Might, might not, depends on just how different the two machines are. It
would require a "repair" install so that XP could adjust the configuration
to account for changes in CPU, mobo, and any other hardware differences.
But it's never 100% guarantee. Of course, you may trigger activation again.
If you've not activated in the last 120 days, the issue is moot, the slate
is wiped clean anyway. If you have, then it will require a phone call to MS
to reactivate on the new hardware.

You must reformat the harddrive and do a clean install of XP whenever you
use the harddrive with a different motherboard.
