Hello,

We currently have an NT 4 box providing WINS, DNS, and
DHCP. I want to retire this box and set up those services
on a new 2000 server. I have gone through and copied the
settings from the old to the new, I took the old one
offline, and then changed the name and IP of the new
server to the same name and IP of the old one, and then
rebooted for the changs to take place and the services to
start. After that I couldn't get an IP address for a
client, after doing an ipconfig /release and then
rebooting. I did an ipconfig /all after logging back in
and it had not be assigned an IP address. Can anyone help
with some steps I need to do to make this work. Is there a
synch time or soemthing I need to build into the cutover.
Rigth now I unplugged the new, and plugged the old back in
and then I could get an IP right away.

Thanks!!

Did you authorize the DHCP server on the W2k server? Make sure it's not
disabled?

DHCP (& Bootp) servers need to be authorized in the
AD for W2K and above. Have you done this?
