Moving Windows2000 BDC to a different machine

Hi all,

Well i've not came upon a single link or KB article that describes
that it is do able or not, so i'm posting here may be someone else has
a working around. I have a machine installed as a BDC with ISA server
Enterprise edition Installed. Authentication is AD integerated and we
are planing about buying a better piece of hardware for this role. what
can be the best possible and hassle free policy to achieve this goal.
I've heared that in windows 2000 professional
you can move pre-installed Os to a new machine and 2K updates the
hardware profile. Can this be done with Windows 2000 Server with a bdc
role and ofcourse ISA server

You can do it if the Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) is compatible. If the
Computer type in Device Manager is ACPI then it is likely compatible with
newer hardware. In Windows 2000 the only lateral change in the HAL is
to/from Multi-processor/Uni-Processor. If you need to change from Standard
PC to ACPI you must run Win2k setup as an upgrade to change the PC type.
 
I'd install the new server, promote it
install ISA / configure it
and un promote the old server, and take it off line
you'll get a better understanding on how things work this way
