Hi, we are running a Win2000 network, we do not use Roaming profiles
meaning the profile is local on the machine. Is there an easy way to
move the profile from one computer to another without user
intervention? Ex) the user is getting a new computer and you want the
files, desktop settings, favorites moved to the new computer but the
user has never logged into the new computer. Is there any MS or third
party software that will do this?

Thanks,

Bernie

Not sure - but why not use roaming profiles? Even temporarily, just for this
one user?
I'd recommend using roaming profiles by default for everyone, but even if
you don't want to for some reason, you ought to be able to do this as a
one-off as needed.

The brute force method is to log on to the user's old computer as the
local pc admin and go to Documents and Settings. Copy their logon name
folder (and it's subfolders) to another location on the network If
memory serves me correctly this will also copy their Outlook Express
mail folder too (assuming they USE OE)

On the new machine, logon as the user. This will create a local
profile folder. Then log on as the local pc administrator, navigate to
their logon folder under Documents and Settings (e.g. C:\Documents and
Settings\Mary)
Copy EVERYTHING from the network saved MARY folder to this new folder.

When Mary signs back on all of her settings, desktop stuff, etc will
be there (and her e-mail.) Of course none of the desktop links will
work until you install all the programs onto this new machine but this
will definitely get you the old profile settings.

If there's a simpler way (short of doing a NTBACKUP of the drive) I'd
like to know that as well.
