Hello:

Just wondering if it is possible to move the operating system, XP pro to a
new hard drive and if so how? Just bought a bigger and faster HD and I want
to use it as my primary boot drive.

Regards,

Ron

Hi Ron,

Norton Ghost can mirror drives and maintain their entire structure. Check
it out at http://www.symantec.com/sabu/ghost/ghost_personal/ . To use the
program, you basically make a boot disk, then run the LOCAL > DISK TO DISK
option and select the source drive (one with the OS on it) and the
destination drive (new, bigger one you want to use). It'll clone the drive.
When it gets done you can simply connect the bigger one as primary in place
of the small one, and it should boot right up. Once you have the new drive
working successfully, you may want to re-format the secondary.

Depends on the drive's manufacturer. I believe Western Digital provides a
Drive to Drive copying application. If you have any software that came with
the drive check it out for the option to copy entire drive to a new one. If
you didn't get any software, check out the manufacturer's website, where you
can often download it. Last case scenario, check out download.com for a free
Drive to Drive copying program. Norton Ghost described in another post is a
commercial program. (a very good one too, though I prefer Drive Image 6.0)
