moving software

I just added an extra harddrive and I want to move many of the programs to
that drive to free up the main one so it will run better and faster. I know
that moving the program creats problem because the programs come up with
messages saying it couldn't find a specific file in a specific location. Can
the files be moved in a better way without creating this issue and without
having to uninstall and reinstall.

Here is an example...tonight I installed Microsoft Works but named the wrong
drive..oops...so I copied it and pasted it in the right place and deleted the
original...then I fixed the shortcuts so that it would lead to the program.
The shortcuts worked fine and so did the program but when I tried to do
something on the program that accessed a file....it gave the first drive
designation as what it wanted to load. This problem also occurs when you try
to put things into folders.
Please help and thanks

IMO there are no 100% reliable ways to do this.

I would like to add, though, that MVP Michael Stevens had posted that he
has had 100% success with a program called Application Mover.

Here is the thread that has that posting:

Interesting link.
I assumed that when Symantec? removed their Application Mover from one of
their apps it was because of major problems caused

Is there anything from Symantec that doesn't?

For the OP:

The only safe and reliable way to move the program folders is to uninstall
the software, then reinstall it using the custom options and choose a folder
on the new drive. Every other manner of doing it carries with it a risk of
corruption of the program.
