We have several computers that uses roaming profile. We are going to
trash the server that the r.profile folders is located. is there a
simple way to move the folders to the new server and have the accounts
to find it on the new server

Yes very easy.
1. Ensure users are not logged in.
2. Ensure new server is part of the domain, and you have admin rights on
both source and destination.
3. May Need to do this, depending on permission settings. Highlight the
profile folders, go to securoty settings, advanced, take ownership of all
the files and folders, inc sub folders. Add in administrators full rights.
4 Move the shared profiles folder from server A to server B (Should give
warnings about being shared)
5. Re-Share the folder with the same name on the new server.
6. Check the permissions on the folders are the same as they were previously
7. Open AD U&C
8. go into the users properties, account, then change the profiles path to
point to the new server share.
9. repeat for each user. (Or get a tool to alter multiple attributes at the
same time)
10. Log in as one of the users to check all is well

There may be other ways to achieve this, like using NTBackup, but its your
chioce.
1. Make a backup of the profile folders to tape or other device.
2. create a share on the new server to accept the profiles
3. restore the backup to the new server.
4. check permsiions are still correct.
5. go to step 7 as above.

Thanks for your answer, the real problem is your point number 9. We
have a lot of accounts and I dont want to go into properties on
everyone. Because we running windows 2000 we cant select all of them
and go into properties like windows 2003

In this case, you will want to do a small ADSI or WSH script to change that
for all users. Its not terribly hard and you can find script samples on the
web.

Another thing to watch out for: If you have SP4 installed on your DCs, you
need to be mindful of the owner of the profiles as they have to be Domain
Admin or the user. Otherwise, you need to set the domain GPO to ignore
ownership. You have to do this, also, if the profiles are moved to a Novell
or NSF volume.
