Is there a product which will allow me to copy my programs from my old PC to
my new PC (via my network) in order to avoid the pain of reinstalling and
reconfiguring them?

Thanks,
Robert

Actually, the new PC will have a different motherboard and need the
associated drivers, and windows won't like this very much. Copying your
personal configuration files (sometimes on a program by program basis
including registry entries) and your data files is probably the best
you'll be able to do. However, you CAN ghost the drive over the network
and then TRY to reinstall windows on it to take care of the new hardware
drivers.

I do not wish to Ghost the whole drive. There are only certain programs
that I wish to move. Can I move only selective programs with GHOST??

Thanks,

Robert

NO. Programs need to be 'INSTALLED' and registered within the
registry.
Some will work by just dragging and dropping the folder. but these are
the minority.
Ghosting or any other Partition copying software will work, but
obviously will be your old install
of OS, Mainboard and chipset. This could be problematic.

interesting. although right off I see no backwards compatibility.
Also, from XP to XP only. I find it hard to believe that there is no
'serial' 'CD key' involved for certain MS products.

<The PC Relocator rules-based migration engine supports hundreds of
common applications as well as proprietary applications that <follow
known rules of installation, directly out-of-the-box. >

It seems that the problem ones 'would' be the programs that followed
the "known rules of installation" as those would be most likely
need/use 'Registry entries'. Many installs are becoming 'windows
wizard' type installation routines, The software looks like it uses
'INI' and setup.txt files to find the files 'rules' and 'paths'. With
a little effort and patients, this can be done manually.

Thanks for the link................
