I am purchasing a new computer and want to move my programs and such to
the new computer, but at the same time still be able to use them on my
old computer. But, i don't want to have to go through all of the
software installations (plus having to find all of the software). Both
computers hard drives will have windows XP pro. Can I just copy all
the files from the old computer to the new computer (a complete move,
similar to getting a larger hard drive) and then reinstall my windows
software so that each computer has a separate license. Thanks

Software must be installed from the original media.

If by "and such," you mean data, you can copy all the data files over. But
you can't copy or move programs. All
installed programs (except for a very occasional tiny one) have many entries
referring to them in the registry and elsewhere. On the new computer, all
those entries will be missing, and a copied or moved program won't work.

Moreover, you presumably have a single license for all of those programs,
and having them installed on two computers would be a violation of the
license (except for freeware programs).
