I'm attempting to move my wife's outlook info including
all messages, address book, contacts, and folders (with
contents) to a new PC. I havent the faintest idea on how
to do this without having to start from scratch. Can
anyone help? How do I get the old information on to the
new PC? Do I move her .PST files? What about the
contacts and all the other info????

Paul,

I'm not sure what OS or Outlook version your using but
this should help:

When you install Outlook it defaults to creating your
mail file store (PST) in the following directory:
C:\Documents and Settings\<loginname>\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook

1. After you install Outlook onto the new machine, you
just need to copy the PST from the original machine to
the new one.
2. If your not changing the version of Outlook, you can
just replace the default PST file created with one from
the original machine. There are other ways of doing this,
but this would be the simplest.
3. If your upgrading your version of Outlook you will
want to import the content of the original after you
install the newer version (there is an Import/Export
option on the File menu of Outlook).

Note, all of your messages and contacts are stored within
the PST.

Since you haven't provided much detail about the version
of Outlook your using, I'm assuming it's not Outlook
Express (OE). If your using OE, this process will be
different.

Good luck.

Richard, I am doing the same thing from an NT machine to
XP Pro - Ver is OL 2000 SP3. Just moving Outlook.pst gives
me all my folders and data but not shortcuts or favorites.
On the XP machine there is only 1 file in C:\Documents and
Settings\<username>\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
(Microsoft Outlook Internet Settings.FAV) but the NT
machine has six files in
C:\winnt\profiles\<username>\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook - (Microsoft Outlook Internet
Settings.FAV, Microsoft Outlook Internet Settings.NIC,
extend.dat, outcmd.dat, Outlprnt & Views.dat.
The XP machine has the files extend.dat and outlook.pst
stored in C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook. on the NT
machine these two files are stored at:
C:\winnt\profiles\<username>\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook.
If I move all the files from the NT machine to the XP one
when I select a folder it tells me it no longer exists.
Is there a way to make the switch and include Outlook Bar
Shortcuts and favorites.
Regards
GavinM
