I have a failing hd. (Hard Drive Failure Imminent).
I purchased and installed a larger hd. (120gb, old one
60gb)("old" Maxtor is 18 months old)
I need to learn a method of moving XP system files to the
new hard drive to make it bootable. I could xcopy
everything from old to new, but I don't think that will
make the new hd bootable. And I don't really want to do
that anyway.
The software that came with the hd said it would copy
files over, but all it did write gibberish files on new
hd.
Can anyone tell me how to make the new hd bootable short
of buying a XP disk

If you purchased a retail "boxed" Maxtor hard drive, look
for the User's Guide and MaxBlast3 CD for instructions
on how to copy your old hard drive to the new one.

Visit: http://maxtor.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/maxtor.cfg/php/enduser/home.php
and click on "MaxBlast Answers".

Thanks you for the tip, MaxBlast did the job for me. My
new hd is Seagate, so MaxBlast complained a little bit,
but performed the function for me anyway.
You saved the day for me!

Thank you very much for the info. I used Maxblast to do
the move for me and it worked perfectly. (not like the
software provided with my new Seagate) After checking the
website you suggested, I wiped out the new hd and did it
again on my own using the great instructions provided at
michna.com. Thanks again for your help. You made my day!

Glad to hear that.
