I'm using Windows XP Home Edition and I need to know how to relocate the "My Documents" and "Shared Documents" folders to another drive while keeping their icons unchanged in "My Computer.

I want to move them to my D: drive because it is far larger than my C: drive. That way I can reserve C: drive for programs without it filling up with user documents.

To change the location of My Documents to the "D" Drive:

Click Start
Right Click My Documents
Click Properties
Click Target
Type D:\
Click Move
Click Yes
Click OK

Go to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr
entVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

and edit the value of "Common Documents" to the path of the folder you want.

Also:

This is a paste from Kieth Miller's recent post on this group at Saturday,
April 24, 2004 3:30 AM that should help:
_____________________________________________________________

I changed the paths for each folder under:

"HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders"
("Common Documents", "CommonMusic", "CommonPictures", "CommonVideo")

Under:

"HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders"

I originally only had the "Common Documents" entry. After seeing what
TweakUI was looking for, I added entries for
"CommonMusic", "CommonPictures" and "CommonVideo" and set the paths I
wanted. After adding those (and logoff/logon), The shortcuts in the "other
places" group in common tasks worked correctly.
