Moving lines/objects in PowerPoint 2007

I've got a line on my slide (representing a date) that runs vertically the
entire height of the slide. I'm trying to move that line across a timeline
that runs horizontally across the top of the slide. When I try to move that
line, 2007 automatically jumps the view to the center of the object (in this
case the line). How do I keep it from jumping down to the center of the line??
 
PPT 2007 recenters like this when you manually move objects. Unfortunately
there's no fix or workaround -- other than to not be zoomed in. We're all
hoping there will be one eventually!
