Moving legacy domain to Windows host

Current configuration is a legacy (unix) dns hosting 'xyz.com'. I have a
Windows 2000 AD domain hosted as 'abc.xyz.com'.

We would like to host the parent domain (legacy zone 'xyz.com') on the
Windows DNS server.

Can both domains be hosted on the Windows DNS server? I believe there are
delegation records on the legacy dns allowing for 'abc.xyz.com'. When
creating the zone on the Windows DNS I'm assuming it would be a 'standard'
zone and I would need to create similiar delegation records?

Thanksk!

It would probably be better to start with a zone transfer from the Unix to
the Windows server, then convert the zone to a standard Primary, before
converting it to AD integrated. This way you can transfer all the records
and delegations in the parent zone to the Windows Server. After you convert
it to AD integrated it will automatically change the SOA, but you will still
have to remove old NS records from the zone if you are going to completely
remove it from the UNIX.
If you plan on leaving the zone on the UNIX, you can configure zone
transfers and make the UNIX a secondary.
