John

I am running windows XP with Front Page 98 on an old computer. Just bought a
new computer with Vista Home Premium. I have read the discussion group
questions and answers. I understand Front Page 98 will not work with Vista
but I'm not sure what Front Page program that I need for the new computer.

FrontPage 2003 will work with Vista. However, FP2003 is no longer fully
supported by Microsoft, and has been replaced by Expression Web and Office
SharePoint Designer.

Expression Web is aimed at standards compliant web sites, and needs some
knowledge of HTML and CSS to get the best out of it.
Expression Web has limited support for FrontPage components.
SharePoint Designer is aimed at SharePoint websites, but can be used on
"ordinary" sites and has more support for FrontPage Components.
Neither program has any support for VML graphics (WordArt, ShapeArt,
TextBoxes and objects created using the Drawing toolbar).

A trial for Expression Web is available from
http://www.microsoft.com/expression/

IMPORTANT: Do not forget the product key obtainable from a link on the
download page.

The newsgroup for Expression Web is microsoft.public.expression.webdesigner
The link
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.expression.webdesigner
should open the group in your news reader.

Thank you very much for the info. My website is very basic with all typed
words, no pictures or other graphics. Is FrontPage 2003 still the way to go
for me?

If you choose to use FP 2003, it should be fine for your purposes. *If* you
can find a copy for sale somewhere.

Thank you---------------I didn't realize that finding FP2003 would be a
problem. I guess I'll start looking around.

FP2003 is no longer sold, since it has been replaced by Expression Web. You
might still find a copy at Amazon.

Checked Amazon---nothing there. I did find a copy on Ebay for $249.95. Ebay
item # 390031058764 It sounds correct and complete. They are saying it is
new and not used. If I can't find anything else, I'll probably get that one.

Hi Steve,

Now I'm confused-----I thought that FP2003 was the way to go?? Ok, let me
ask it this way----I'm currently using FP98 and want to make the switch the
easiest and simplest way possible. Would that be FP2003 or Expression Web?

I seem to remember FrontPage 2003 selling for about $100 back when it
was first released. $250 sounds awfully expensive for a six-year-old
product. I'm still using it with XP to maintain an older site, but there
are newer products with more bells and whistles. You will, of course,
face a learning curve with a new and different product.

Bill

The way to go is with Expression Web. But EW is NOT a FrontPage upgrade -
it is a replacement. As I said in my earlier post, Expression Web is aimed
at Standards Compliant web sites, and needs some knowledge of HTML and CSS
to get the best out of it.
There is a free trial available at http://www.microsoft.com/expression

FrontPage was discontinued over 2 years ago, and is now out of mainstream
support - the only support you will get directly from Microsoft is critical
updates for FP2003.

I agree with Rob - $249 is way over the top for a copy of FrontPage at this
time - it would be expensive at any time in FrontPage's life cycle. Right
now, considering the age of the program (over 6 years - that very old for
software) and the (lack of) support available $25 is more like the price
to pay - if you want to take the risk. For the record, I paid 86gbp
(approx $130 at that time) in 2003 for FP2003 upgrade.

Ebay
item # 390031058764 It sounds correct and complete. They are saying

FP2003 is no longer sold, since it has been replaced by Expression

might still find a copy at Amazon.
