Who What

I have a Compaq Evo D500 Ultra-Slim Celeron w/Win XP Pro on a Seagate
20Gb drive - it's using 'bit shift' translation.

I bought one of the new 80GB Western Digital Special Drive. The
instructions say to use LBA translation.

I put in an a cable to hold both drives and I bought a power cable
splitter to hook both drives to the power supply (obviously I have the
case open right now being that there is'nt room for 2 drives).

Anyway, when I tried to use Partition Magic to copy partitions or try
to Ghost the 20GB drive to the 80GB, I can't get the 80Gb drive to
boot once I leave that as the only drive. I'm using the 'cable
select' setting on both drives - when I have only the 80GB drive in
the system I move it to the drive 0 position on the drive cable.

I'm wondering if the problem is copying from a 'bit shift' drive to an
LBA drive. I tried changing the 20GB drive to use LBA in the BIOS and
when I reboot it doesn't boot. This problem (not being able to boot
the 80GB drive) happens even if I set both drives to use 'bit shift' -
althought the documentation for the 80GB says to use 'LBA'.

I did set the primary partition on the 80GB to be 'active'.

I hope I didn't leave anything else out.

Thanks
