hello all,

i am planning to migrate from my current domain
mycompany.com to a new domain corp.mycompany.com domain.
i am running win2k sp4 and exchange 2k sp3. is his
possible? what are some pitfalls i should watchout for?
my main reason for doing this is that the AD/Integrated
DNS for mycompany.com domain is causing some issue as the
Windows DNS server is acting as the authoriative name
server for mycompany.com which conflicts with my
production DNS server answering public queries for
anything xxx.mycompany.com. my initial thought is to
bring up a Windows/AD child domain corp.mycompany.com
domain and move users/computers/services to this new child
domain. however, reading through the documentation, it
seems involve and has numerous possibilities of data
loss/corruption. i appreciate any inputs from anyone
having gone through this process or have another more
eloquent solution. thanks for your help.

Hi,

You should solve the conflcting DNS issues. You didn't
put too much info on that, but it seems to me that you
have both the production and Windows Server DNS on the
same subnet/network. Your Windows DNS should be inside a
firewall from the production - otherwise, you could make
your Windows DNS your production DNS, but that is
unadvisable for security reasons...
