What is the easiest way to move my DNS from one server to
another, I want to take the current one off line.

Install DNS on the new server. If the zones are AD integrated, and the new DNS server is a DC, the zones will transfer automatically. If the zones are Standard
Primary, stop the DNS service on both servers. On the current DNS server copy the zone files from winnt\system32\dns. Only copy the files that your DNS
zones.com.dns. Export the HKLM/SYSTEM/CCS/Services/DNS key from the old server and import it into the new server. Start the DNS service and the
server should be configured. Be sure to point the clients to the new DNS server and update any Internet registered zones to include the IP address of the new
DNS server as the NS for the zone. You may also need to edit the Listen On address. Open the properties of the DNS server from the DNS MMC. On the
Interfaces tab ensure that the correct IP address is listed.

Thank you,

We do limited client webhosting so our DNS records have
about 20-25 zones. Our hosting server is setup as a stand-
alone server, so we do not have to worry about AD
structures.

Will this solution work going from Windows 2000 to Windows
2003? Are there any third-party or microsoft tools that
would export the records into a file (other than reg
files)?

Thank you
