Having bought the other day a new PC I need to move data from my old to the
new PC.

As the data is quite big ( Video files etc. ) I connected them with a
parallel cable, created
under "Network Connections" on both PC's the connection but when trying to
connect it
says that the connection is busy.

What am I doing wrong ?

Help is appreciated

remove the hard disk from your old computer and
open the side panel on the new computer,
connect the "old" hdd instead of the cd on the new machine.
boot up and drag and drop whatever files you want to
where ever you want
that way you get it done IDE to IDE (fastest)

You need a special cable having the same connector at both ends
to do what is called a Direct Cable Connection. For WinXP, see:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=814982 .

Another approach is to use a "crossover" cat 5 (i.e. Ethernet)
cable to connect the 2 PCs via Ethernet. Crossover cables are
available at places such as Fry's Electronics or you can make one
yourself. Search Google.com for "crossover cable ethernet pinout".
The crossover cable simulates a LAN over which the 2 ethernet
cards communicate.

There must be a solution that does not require removing the HDD.
