Moving Contacts from One Folder to Another - Outlook 2002

I use Outlook 2002.

I have the standard Contacts folder (which is empty) and two other contact
folders (which contain data).

When I press the Outlook shortcut for Contacts - it takes me to the empty
folder. This is one reason why I want to transfer the data from one of the
two "extra" contac folders into the standard Contact folder.

How can I do this?

PS - You may well have guessed that my next task will be to merge the second
"extra" folder with the standard Contact folder once I have populated this
standard Contact folder as set out above. However, I am sure that we can all
contain our excitement and wait until step 1 is successfully completed.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Migrate to one of the Contacts Folders that contain data.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately - when I tried to follow your
suggestion - I was only ever able to move the contact details to a SUB folder
of the standard Contact folder - rather than populate this standard Contact
folder with the contents of one of my populated contact folders?

Am I missing something?

Also - is there any way that I can view these postings in discussion groups
without all the control characters showing?

Thanks for helping such a novice!

All the best.

Clarify what you mean.
You can target any folder in your profile as the destination.

I mean that when I move the contacts - they are in a folder with the same
name as the old folder - but which is now a sub-folder of the standard
Contacts folder. Previously, they were "on the same level" as the standard
Contact folder.

Hope this clarifies and thanks for trying!

Perhaps you'd better start at the beginning and tell us what steps you used
to corrupt your profile. Two folders with the same name cannot exist on the
same level.

I do not THINK that I have a corrupted profile.

Here is a description of what I have:

Under my "Outlook Today" - [Personal Folders] I have three folders of
Contacts. Their names are:
Contacts
Contacts - PJAB
Contacts - PJAB - Old

I am trying to transfer the contents of the Contacts - PJAB folder into the
Contacts folder.

However, I only seem to be able to transfer the whole Contacts - PJAB folder
and end up with it as a sub folder of Contacts (as opposed to transferring
the contents of the folder INTO the Contacts folder)

Does this make any more sense?

Thanks for your continued interest!

That's worked - thanks for that!

The secret seems to be actually slecting an individual contact, then using
Select All before moving the data to the desired destination.

Thanks for seeing this through - much appreciated!

Actually that's not a necessary step most of the time. Most Contact views
will place the screen focus within the Contacts Folder and highlight the
first Contact. A few views place the focus on the folder itself. Only then
would you need to click into the folder to select all the contents. Just
depends on what view you're using.
