Assuming defaults after the domain was created, the only difference between
the different DCs in the forest root domain would be that the first dc in
that domain will hold all 5 fsmo roles (the two forest wide schema and
domain naming, and then the 3 domain based ones, IF, rid, and pdc). All
other domains in the forest, either children or separate trees, will only
have the 3 domain based roles on the first dc in that domain.
These roles can be moved from dc to dc using either the gui or ntdsutil
utility. The gui is recommended, and the easiest, if all dc's are
available. Ntdsutil will attempt to transfer if the other dc is available,
but if not then seize the role. This is usually only done when dc's holding
fsmo roles are no longer available, so use the gui first.
