Hi,

In about one month I must give up broadband. I want to download
whatever might be useful in those 30 days that would be a major
endeavor for dialup.

I already have mandrake 10, OO, GIMP, and the PL CD for example.

Really need a wish list of proggies 50 megs and up that I can sample
at my leasure in January.

BTW, I have win98SE, win2K, and mandrake.

Sigh, I will miss the fast lane.

It's a nightmare. We used to have cable modem service. The last week of
October we moved downstate to Bug Tussle. Although it's great being back in
the mountains and living on the lips of Lake Eufala all we have here is
dial-up...and that sucks. The good thing is that I can start a download
now, go fishing for awhile, then come back and watch it finish while I'm
cleaning fish.

Life goes on. I spend half a month on broadband and then go back to half
a month on AOL dial up. I've been doing this for 3 years now. One learns
to cope. And to set stricter priorities in binary groups. :-)

Just get everything you can now including microsoft updates that you can
install later if necessary. Even ZoneAlarm is a big download over
dialup. Forget about visiting many sites too.

I've now got a gmail account and I ask that big emails be sent there to
download at my leisure (ie. when I have something else to go and do
while I wait) rather than clog up my actual "working" time on the net.

Another thing I do is get a friend with broadband to download the
programmes and split them to send to me via email over a couple of days.

Keep your chin up, it could be worse, you could be unemployed with no
computer whatsoever :)

It will be just like Chinese water torture.....you know where they
drip water on your head till you go crazy.....only you will get there
quicker. I really hated to tell you that but a 15 meg program on 28.8
dialup did that ttttto meeeee.

so?

i have broadband at home and love it,
but at work its dial up.

its not nearly as slow as it used to be,

and its still way cheaper!

Thanks. You're right. I will need to rearrange what I do.

But don't you just hate losing a 50 meg fish just cus the line broke
at the last minute.

BTW, for all others, there really is a Bug Tussle (several). Gather
you are from the Texas/Oklahoma area. Update Cousin Stanley if you
wish.

About 5 miles north of McAlester, OK...then about 4 miles east on highway
113 at the Indianola turnoff. If you mapquest for Bug Tussle Oklahoma,
you'll see the cove of the lake I walk around the corner to fish in. The
property we're buying is a 10 acre tract over in Buzzard Gap which is about
1 mile south of Wilburton then about 6 miles east. There's a lake, Buzzard
Gap Lake, about a hundred yards or so from our property. It's a nice 7-8
acre lake that sets up in the woods.
