(This is off topic, sorry)
Does maybe someone know if there is somewhere a forums/newsgoup on
MovieXone?
Thank you in advance

Hi there,

There is a discussion group but its in German, and just at the moment I
cannot remember the name of it. As other products are regularly discussed
in here I am sure no one will mind you asking questions about MovieXone. I
upgraded to MovieDV 6 from MovieXone. I bypassed the MovieXone Plus
product. I had not used MovieXone for long when I realized what a brilliant
program it is...once you get past the nasty "skinned" interface.

Is there something particular you wanted to know?

Thank you. I am basically looking to a general introduction to it. Untill
now, the only editing software I have used is MM2, so I am a bit lost with
MovieXone (as I would also be with Premiere and all these other more
advanced softwares). My questions now with MovieXone are very basic: how to
create clips from a long dv-avi input file, how to make titles overlay, how
to create custom transitions -there is only one by default-, how to, how
to...). Basic questions... I dont want to bother you with these questions,
quite off topic here. I will make some more search on the net to find
general informations, and play a bit with the program (I just only installed
it yersterday)... Thank you again.

John,

May I ask you just one thing, about the differences between the free version
of MovieXone and the not free version?

I have the free version.

In the help file, I read:

To carry out Automatic Scene Recognition:
Open a new Album
Then select the footage from the Browser
Drag it into the Album
Right-click the clip in the Album
Select Detect Scenes

Problem is that if I right-click the clip in the Album, the "Detect scenes"
option does not appear in the drop down list. Do you thing that is because
the option is not embedded in the free version of MovieXone?

Do you have an idea about the list of features that are not present in the
free version?

Thank you in advance.

Hi there,
To carry out Automatic Scene Recognition:

Problem is that if I right-click the clip in the Album, the "Detect scenes"
option does not appear in the drop down list. Do you thing that is because
the option is not embedded in the free version of MovieXone?

The instructions are identical for MovieDV as well. I dont "drag" any
files to the album, I click on the Add button (file Open) in the album which
opens a standard dialog/preview box where I select the file. After adding a
file in this manner right clicking it inside the album and selecting Detect
Scenes does the job. I would think your thoughts on why its not in the free
version is going to be correct, but I do find that rather odd, it is after
all such a basic feature nowadays. I have to say that in my early days with
MovieDV I used Movie Maker to actually create the clips as individual files
on the hard drive and then import them into MovieDV.
Do you have an idea about the list of features that are not present in the
free version?

You can see an outline of the features in MovieXone plus on their
website.

The big diferences are the number of seperate Video Tracks, Audio Tracks
and Transitions. In MovieDV you get 10 re-useable video tracks and 10
reusable audio tracks...and there must be hundreds of transitions and
effects. There is an option to buy additional video and audio tracks, at my
level 10 of each is more than enough. My problem with MovieDV is related to
the range/scope of what you can do. It is at times a little overpowering.

If you go to their website (www.aist.de or www.aist.com) look for the
free transition maker. I never tried it on the free version of MovieXone so
cannot say for sure whether it will work or not. You can make some crazy
transitions with it using pictures you have taken yourself and playing with
the Alpha chanels. The transitions are very clever as are the effects.Even
so, I still use some of the very neat transitions that come with Movie
Maker.

I suppose you could say that I now use Movie Maker as a "preperation"
system for the real editing done in MovieDV.

Once you get past the initial very steep learning curve of MovieXone and
the awful "Skin" layout, I would not be surprised to hear that you have gone
ahead and bought MovieDV. For some reason they only offer version 4.5 to the
rest of the world and offer version 6 in Germany. They are priced more or
less the same and they all work in French, English and German...so you would
be safe purchasing Version 6. Also note that as the UK pound is quite strong
against the US Dollar you save a tidy bit by purchasing in US Dollars. It
cost me $64.99 which I guess would be something like £45. If you are not in
the UK that little trick may not be of much use to you.

Hope this "short" reply was of some use to you :))

I have now spent some hours on MoxieXone (free version). Indeed, it seems
very intersting. At least very complementary to MM2, for specific fonctions
or needs (picture in picture, color correction,
reverse play, etc.). Great!

Hi Michel,

Yes, I knew you would like it. Its just getting past those initial first
steps that are the problem. I came quite close to giving up on it. I am
pleased I persevered though and moved on to the top of the MovieX set of
programs MovieDV 6. Because the core set of functions are identical in all
version of MovieX switching between programs is easy.
