Windows XP and Office 2003, new dell exteneded screen
laptop.

ALL windows updates current, directx upgraded, media
player upgraded, all dell drivers updated. You can play
the movie on a slide by adding a media player clip, but
then have to type in the whole path of the file - tedious
even with pasting. When you simply insert a movie through
the ppt menus, it appears to play the movie so fast in the
slideshow that it only "blips." If you go back and forth
between the slide in front and in back of it, after about
three to four times it plays normally. This is making me
CRAZY!! Any ideas? :)

Have you tried playing the movies in the MCI media player (which PPT uses)?

In Windows XP Start > Run and type in mplay32.exe. Then navigate to your
files using File > Open.

I found a mention to this on the web and tried it -
mplay32.exe does NOT play the video... Does this give you
a hint as to how I can fix the problem?

Yes, if the MCI player fails to play the video then PPT can't play them.
The most likely cause is that the videos are in a non standard format (an
example is an MPEG that doesn't follow the Redbook standard.) or you are
missing the required codecs. Lets start with, where did the videos come
from and work from there.

This was the latest post, then my reply is below that with
my question:

To the MVP Team, Jan 13, 2004 - Here is the latest. The
videos will play in Ppt with the media player. If I try to
play them in powerpoint as a movie clip (the easiest way)
and I do the play slideshow, then go to any one of the
movie slides, it shows blank. Then if I click the arrow to
go to the slide immediately before the movie slide, then
click next to go back to the movie slide, IT PLAYS. Any
ideas? Thank you!
