My friend has a Dell Desktop and connected various SATA drives via
USB. When she tried to back up some movies, they kept becoming corrupt
even after they were ok initially. She tested the memory by removing
each stick, and the corruption was immediate one time and took a few
minutes with the other stick. One external drive was connected to a
front USB port, the other to a back one. Reasons could include bad
RAM, maybe Nvidia driver? She's also getting many BSOD without any
clues from Vista being logged. Are there any other possibilities? TIA

I can't help, but I can tell you that someone has complained before
about corrupted photos when transferring from a digital camera via USB.

I do think there may be issues with the RAM if removing some of it
changes the nature of the problem. Run a memory test for several hours
and see what happens. RAM problems can show up are hardware faults,
program faults or most any other kind of fault, so until you know for
sure about the RAM I don't think you can diagnose the problem.
