Movies and Video Clips NOT Playing in Powerpoint Presentations

I am using MS Office Powerpoint 2003 and Windows XP.
When I insert a video clip in mpg and other formats, the audio plays but no
video shows up on the screen. Depending what format it is the screen goes
green or breaks up in multicolours.
The same videos played on my previous machine which had Windows 2000 and an
earlier version of Office.
I downloaded PFC media anad it only made matters worse.

Any thought on corrective action?

Can you explain what you mean by making it worse? Can you play the PFC
created video (located in the same folder you have the presentation saved
in.) in the Windows Media Player outside Powerpoint?

As to fixing it, I suspect you have you presentation in a folder with a path
that is too long. Try moving it (and all media files) to a folder with a
short path. Example "C:\Test". If that doesn't do it, you may have an
issue woith your video card driver or DirectX in which case you will need to
update them.

How would I know if I have the latest drivers applicable to my video card? I
am using an HP Compaq nc6120.
How would I turn back hardware acceleration?
 
Inserting a PFC version video locks everything up after sections of the
screen are over laid in green.

The PFC and original wmv version clips both play correctly when run in Media
Player or Real Player.

I have tried shortening the path and it makes no difference.

Additional note:- mpg movies can be inserted in the ppt without locking up
and plays sound only when run but the wmv type lock everything during
insertion.

Check HP/Compaq's site. There should be a support section with driver downloads.

Great! Glad to hear it. Seems like such an *unlikely* thing, this acceleration thing,
but it's amazing how often it fixes this kind of problem. Other problems too.

Echo swears by it when people come here complaining of stomach-aches and smelly feet
and such. ;-)
