Hi everyone,
I am stating with MovieMaker 2. I have been experimenting for
the last week. I have read PapaJohn site and found it very instructive.

Here are some questions that I have not found answers for yet:

1) When capturing a video using MovieMaker2 capture task, I get a video
without sound. After many trials I found that sound "line input" gets "mute"
I have to unclick the mute before starting the capture of every clip. When I
turn off mute, it capture OK, but I have to reset it before every capture.
Is there a way to set it permanently off?

2) I have only 1 capture card (ATI 9000 pro) but 2 computers. Is there a way
to merge the collections from both computers? I think PapaJohn is saying no
on his site.

3) I would like to keep my capture in the highest possible quality. Again my
understanding is that AVI format would be the choice of preference. Is that
true? What is the quality of WMV format? Can I use the capture of
MovieMaker2 to achieve my goal or should I turn to somethingelse like the
capture software that comes with ATI?

Thanks for reading this.

Hi Andre,

I guess I'm doing something wrong, as my site isn't meant to be too
instructive... you're supposed to buy my books to compliment the info on the
website. :)

On your second item, I create various 'topical' collections using MM1 and
then import them into MM2 as needed for my 'project' collections. Examples
of 'topical' collections are my 'winter-2003/2004 widescreen', my 'standard
opening/closing/intermezzo clips', and my 'royalty-free music'. I start a
new project collection in MM2 when I have an idea for a new movie.... and
import the appropriate 'topical' collections when needed.

Yes, DV-AVI is the highest quality, as it's the same as the info on the
camcorder tape. Capturing with Movie Maker should be the same result as
capturing with something else.

For those interested I have made progress:
1) The sound input line in Windows was set to mute. Removing the check fixed
the problem.
2) I will install MovieMake 1 and experiment like PapaJohn suggested.
3) I had missed the fact that there is two places to set the video quality
one in capture and one in rendering. Changing the capture quality to the
highest solved the problem partially. Because now the quality lies with the
capture card and its driver (I am using ATI 9000 pro). If I set quality to
352 x 240 eveything works fine. If I set to 640 x 480 then the quality is
not as it should be. But experimenting with other capture program gives the
same result.

So thanks to PapaJohn.
