Are there any known issues using MovieMaker2 with Adaptec
RAID controlled I/O ? See discussion below:

I have RAID 1200A installed with 4 HDs (60 GB each), as
RAID 0/1 (Mirrored Striping), on Windows XP Pro, with 1GB
memory. Now, I try to capture movies via IEEE 1394
firewire (mother board), and the computer hangs up; this
happens with 3 movie capture programs: MovieMaker 2, WIN
DV, and 'Ulead' VideoStudio. I tried a PCI IEEE 1394
card to capture, and the same thing happens - hangs up.
I installed the PCI IEE 1394 card on another computer
with Windows XP Home edition, and used Movie Maker 2,
and all works/captures movies just fine; also a friends
computer works fine with MM2.. The only difference in the
3 computer configurations (of importance), is the RAID
0/1 installation on my computer. I guess the question
is, are there any known issues with RAID I/O functioning
with movie capture?? If none known can you test this
configuration (close), to determine.
Thanks for your help.

Hello There,

Provided the RAID system is working properly Movie Maker will have no
problems with it, its just a drive as far as movie maker is concerned.
Movie Maker access the drives in much the same way as any other program,
and that's through the API. So if there was an issue you would have noticed
it with other programs. One thing you will need to confirm is whether or
not the low level interface (CMOS) is set up for at least 32bit data
transfer. There have been a couple of people lately who were unaware that
their system was only transferring at 8bit instead of 32bit (Mucho Big
Difference)

With regard to the tests you have conducted on the other machines, the only
thing you proved was that they do not have the same problem as you do. The
only way that test could be valid is if all of the machines had exactly the
same software, installed at exactly the same time and had all updates at
exactly the same time. That would be an absolute must so that the effects
of each addition would be at the same time in the life of each machine and
ensuring as far as possible that adding or removing that piece of software
had the same effect on each machine.

Do you have any "give away" software like a DVD playing package like
cyberlink or powerdvd?

Do you have any games installed (other than those that come with XP)
(Anything that uses OpenGL or a version of DirectX)

Do you have any other Video Editing package. I can't remember which just at
the moment, there is at least one package that interferes with Movie Maker.

Have you tried the WinDV utility (See the link on my website) It has just
two functions, to get from or send to a DV camera. It is widely praised and
helped people out who have not been able to capture using Movie Maker
(Often Sony DV camera owners)

Thanks John for the reply;
As far as I know the RAID is working correctly, as all
programs are and have been functioning for about a year
now.
8 bit vs. 32 bit - not sure, but will check.
Yes, in trying Win DV as stated in my post - does the
same thing - hangs up.
I do have PowerDVD installed for playing DVD - plays DVDs.
I have a couple games installed from internet and from
purchased CD, may use DirectX

More thoughts??
