Moviemaker Import problem

I have two *.VRO files that I want to import into Moviemaker, one from a
digital video camera, and one from a DVD recorder. I have tried changing the
extensions to *.mpeg, *.mpg, and *.avi. All three will play in Media Player,
but when I try to import into Moviemaker they import, but will only play as
audio files.

Anyone know why? Anyone know how to fix?
 
You need to 'convert' the files. Movie Maker does not work well with Mpegs.
There are a number of format converters, but I use AVS Converter. Go to
www.download.com and you can do a search for it, and do a trial on it to see
if you want to buy it. Its a handy tool for captures, conversions, and
even dvd/svcd/vcd burning and such.

Hi again Andrew...
Actually if you convert it to AVI it should work just fine inside Movie Maker.
But I do know from others on here (and personal experience) that Mpegs don't
work. Also, when you complete your movie you should save it as DV-AVI
(which are huge files) to facilitate high quality for burning it to a dvd (I
just did a 55 minute wedding video yesterday and it was 12 Gigabyte! but the
DVD is awesome!)....if you plan on playing it on your computer only, I just
choose the 'high quality ntsc' format and use that.
 
Thank you very much for your help - I have now bought AVS Converter and
hopefully will be able to get everything to work!

Incidentally - do you also know how to get good quality screen shots from
movie files? I have tried downloading a couple of programs that say they do
it, but they all do the same thing as print screen - when I dump them into
paint, they open as a funny black box!
 
You can do it inside Movie Maker itself. Capture it from the 'content'
screen and
not from the 'timeline'......to learn how to do it.....when you are in Movie
Maker, go to
the top and click on 'help'.....and then 'help topics'......then click on
'index'.....and scroll down to the subject of 'pictures' and click on the
subtitle named 'taking'. You can read what it says on that screen, and then
click on the line that says ''to take a picture from video in the monitor''
to get the detailed description on how to do it. I think once you know
how to do it, it will become like riding a bike and you won't forget the
next time....LOL
