movie refuses to play

I looked around on the boards for mention of this problem,
but I don't think I caught it so I thought I'd post anew.
At times, when I click the play button while in movie-
editing format (not a saved mpeg format of the movie) to
preview a transition or an edit, etc, moviemaker doesn't
play. The buttons and everything works, and the program
doesn't freeze as I can still import files, add new clips,
and trim existing clips, but the movie refuses to play. I
searched around Papa John's site, and saw no mention of
this (unless I missed it, heh), though I did cut back on
acceleration to see if that helped. It didn't, though. Can
anyone help?

Thanks much

Hi there,

1st thought is, in the event that the machine you are using is either quite
slow or has too little RAM, it is possible for that condition to apply, but
perseverance would eventually win through.

2nd thought is, and I have had the same problem....If you have not
deliberately selected the clip then it will not play. Try left clicking the
actual clip you want to play and then immediately click on the play button.

3rd thought is, I have often found that shouting at it very loudly and
slowly often helps...not the issue, ME !

Seriously, Its an odd one. I assume that you can actually save to hard
drive the movie and that you can save the project. I wonder what version of
DirectX you have. If its less than version 9 then upgrading may help out
and whilst in that area make sure you have version 9 of Windows Media
Player. If the problem still persists, well I have a nice 5lb lump hammer I
can sell you :)

With my older computer, I figured that was the problem. It
had zip in term of ram and processor speeds. But this is a
brand new machine, 3.06GHz, 512 Ram, 120gb, Trident-
CyberALADIN vid. card, all that good stuff. So I don't
think that's it. I've got the latest version of DirectX
and Media Player, so I don't think that's the problem. I
can also save just fine. Lol, the shouting helps me, but
not my poor laptop.

No hammers, please. It'd be much to tempting.

So I tried the clicking on the clip thing. It seemed to be
working, until the audio cut out all together (that would
be where the screaming came in ;) The music track I had in
the project just went silent. So I had working clips, but
no music to work off of. Ended up having to restart the
computer because after I shut down MM and went to restart
it, it did that nifty thing were..well, it didn't. Start
that is. Ack. Anywho, thanks much for taking the time to
reply.
