1) . How do I find out what version of Movie Maker I have on my computer?

2). I have made movies in the past with Movie Maker, and have burned them
to a CD/DVD format. Suddenly, the last time I did this, my movie cut out
half-way through, but the sound/music continued. The last video clip shown
was also inverted up-side-down! Now I have lost several hours of work and
can't seem to get it back! What gives?

You may have some incompatibility issues
with your source files. Have a look at the
following article:

And for the upside down issue:

For a quick fix...drag the 'Rotate 180'
Video Effect onto your clips in the timeline..

Could be caused by an outdated video
driver or it could be a codec issue. Have
you installed any codec packages?

The following link is the result of a
Google Groups search...maybe it
will offer some ideas:

You didn't answer my question as to finding out what version of MM I have.
Also, how do I find and download these "codec packages" you are talking about.

Yes, I did. Open Movie Maker and go to...
Help / About. You'll find the version number.

Sorry, John - but I didn't see anything in your original message about
finding codec packages, etc. What exactly IS a codec?

Yes, I found the version number. I have 2.1
I like using MM because it is easy, but I hate the lastest problems I've
been having. I made 2 movies in the same sitting - one came out fine and the
other? Video was cut off halfway through. Audio remained in tact.
Any idea when Microsoft is going to upgrade MM?

I'll look at the links you left for codec.
Thanks!

I'm still thinking you may have incompatibility
issues with your source files.

A new version included with Vista.

So you need Vista in order to get the new version of Movie Maker? Bummer.
So much for us little guys that can't afford to upgrade . . .

Yes, it only runs on Vista.
