How did you download the file?
Did you use IEEE 1394 (FireWire/i.LINK)

the file is from the tape which the video is recorded onto. I managed to
transfer the video to movie maker but it played with no sound. have tried s
video and composite devices to no avail.

Might be worth a try to use
IEEE 1394 (FireWire/i.LINK)
to download your file.

the TRV245 is a digital 8mm camcorder -
How and what did you use in your attempt to download to the PC ?
Also - is this a digital 8mm tape or an analog 8mm tape you are trying
to download ?
As others have mentioned - the best way is with the iLink / firewire /
1394 mini cable.
I have the Sony D8 TRV120 and it works fine.

S-Video dosen't carry audio signals.
"composite devices"? Exactly what device is it?
