Some time ago I saw instructions about making one long music file (WMA) from
multiple mp3 files. Anyone point me to that location? I had bookmarked it,
but Microsoft changed some things around...

You over estimate my ability to do this! :) There were step by step
instructions on here somewhere!!!

PapaJohn, maybe there is an easier way to do this. When I play the files in
WMP they play as one continuous song, which is how it should be, it's a
mixtape. If I copy that to a cd it splits them up. Is there a way to do
this right in wmp? I previously created a wma file using the instructions
that were on here previously, but did not save those instructions and have
since been moved...

Maybe you are just playing a Playlist in WMP...
in that case, the files are not physically combined...
they are simply playing one after the other.

Try the following instructions if you wish to
combine several sound files into one.

Open Windows Movie Maker...

Import the sound files...(File / Import)

Drag the files onto the timeline...
be sure the first file is all the way to the left
and there are no spaces between the
adjacent files.

File / Save Movie File / My Computer /
Next / enter a name and a save location /
Next / Next.

More:
I'm sure there are many programs that
can accomplish this but the following freebie
will join MPG, MPEG, MP3, and WAV files.

Thank, I was able to accomplish this, but it still had small breaks between
songs even though I lined them up right. I know the last time I did this, I
remember actually playing the files in Movie Maker and recording that (as
there were no breaks when played). Getting there...

you can overlap the songs in the timeline simply by grabbing (click and
hold) the second song and drag the beginning of the song over the end of the
first song. you can then slide it back and forth until you get just the
right mix. then repeat for each clip down your timeline

It's coming back to me now, but I didn't have to do any of that because when
I play the files in WMP it mixes it PERFECTLY. I now remember that it
entailed opening WMP and movie maker at the same time, loading all the mp3
files, pausing WMP and recording in movie maker and then saving that, but I
am still not sure. Does ANYONE remember? LOL

that is exactly what I was trying to do. So just go to tool|narrate timeline
then hit play in WMP???

OKay, I got it to work, one more question, I notice that it changes the bits
per second from 128 to 170 and sounds more like "tin" playing than normal.
Anyway to correct that? I noticed that it sounded less "tinny" when I moved
the slider on the input level (wave out) to the bottom... Thanks again.

No you can't
You can only save video as WMV or DV-AVI.
Let me also add that when working with MP3 files in WMM you do occasionally
tend to experience audio problems between videos etc...
