It should be the in the specifications of your PC... however Windows Movie
Maker doesn't like analog video much, it prefers digital video.

I have a Sony Camcorder and I want to copy the video tapes onto my computer
and then burn them on to DVD's. I just can't figure out exactly how to
connect my camcorder to my computer. I have read all the jargon..but I don't
know what it looks like and where to plug my camcorder in. Or if I go to a
store, what to buy...

Unless you have a media centre pc it's very unlikely you'll have an analogue
capture card fitted, it's not normally done unless requested.
What you need is an analogue to digital device, which the cam will plug into
adn tehis will plug into your pc.
For the best ones - no hassle - work - best quality you'll need to spend a
bit of money, see these from canopus and miglis

If you want to chance it, then look at the cheaper ones from the likes of
pinnacle - dazzle.
Differences are the better ones connect via firewire, so you can use MM to
capture and edit, it captures as full frame dv-avi, which is easy to edit.
Other option is to buy a cheapish minidv camcorder which has ANALOGUE
inputs. You could then connect the old cam to the new one, and capture to MM
using what is known as pass through. Benefit of this is, all those listed
above for the better units and also you get a nnew cam to record future
movies with.

Thanks for the information. It was very helpful..
I doubt that I have a capture card.
And the reason why I want to transfer my tapes is because the old camcorder
doesn't work very good anymore, can't record. So I am hoping to just get the
tapes transfered at least. So the new camcorder may be the way to go.
