I recently changed PCs, from a 1.6Ghz Celeron-based Compaq to a 3.0Ghz
P4-based Dell Dimension 3000. The Dell came with XP Home. I was able to
pull video from my JVC digital Mini-DV camcorder successfully. Recently, I
bought a full XP-Pro license, and upgraded my Dell operating system. Ever
since, I cannot pull the video off. It goes thru the motions, does NOT
display anything in the preview pane, then at the end tells me it was
unsuccessful. Has anyone encountered this? Does anyone have any
suggestions? I'm out of ideas. Thanks!

Hello,

Its a very bad idea to upgrade an OS that knows very little about
permissions etc etc to one that knows a fair amount. You should ALWAYS
start with a fresh hard drive when changing the OS...XP all versions gives
you the ability to preserve the system state while you do that making the
migration a lot easier....more advice should be obtained through the
relevant newsgroup...but its probably too late as you will have overwritten
many settings (Unless you made a full backup prior to upgrading)

Actually, I was able to fix my problem last night. Taking a cue from last
weekend, when I was unable to get my wireless NIC to work with a hotel's
wireless network, I simply went into Device Manager and uninstalled the
Firewire port, then rebooted and let Plug-n-Play reinstall that piece of
hardware. Voila! When I tried to pull my video off using WMM2, everything
was hunky dory.

This is how I got my wireless to connect....uninstalled the wireless
connection, then rebooted.

I was also having trouble with my Philips DVD8631 drive (read all over the
internet where people who have this drive despise it, as I was wont to do).
Just for fun, I uninstalled it, then rebooted and let PnP resintall it. Now
I have no problems burning DVDs, whereas I have not been able to do that for
the 6 months I've owned this Dell Dimension.

I think I've found a miracle cure :)
