I am going insane trying to get my DV JVC camcorder to connect to my dell. I
don't have a firewire connection port on my dell. The 4 to 6 pin wire I have
is not working to the USB port which I know works for other devices (digital
camera).

Why does it not allow me "capture from video device"?

Try downloading WM encoder 9 series, set to capture audio/video.Also,for
simply viewing content, run the WMCAP utility, both can be had at windows media
home.

Stop going insane and purchase yourself a PCI firewire card for the PC.

Windows Movie Maker is designed for digital video... and capturing through
USB isn't regarded as 'digital', so it's very hit and miss as to whether it
will work or not. It will also result in a degraded picture as opposed to
the digital firewire connection.

Something like:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16815123012

Comes with 4pin to 6pin cable as well and certainly won't break the bank.

That sounds great, but I am no computurer guru, it this something I can do
myself? What is a PCI slot, something in the back of the computer? I have
windows XP, will that be compatible? It comes with no drivers, should I be
concerned? Sorry to ask so many questions but I don't anything about this
stuff.

Yes, you can do it yourself, it will take about three minutes. You simply
turn off the PC, open the case, look near the bottom at the rear and you
should see free 'slots'.... simply insert the card into one of them and make
sure it's in all the way. Before you insert it, just look at the other
cards in there.... and ensure that when you install the new one, it ends up
looking similar. While you're in there, you might want to ensure that not
too many dust bunnies are hibernating in that nice warm case. Take a can of
compressed air and clean them out. You may be surprised at how much dust
and dirt accumulates.

Turn on the PC...... when XP starts up it should come up with a message 'New
Hardware Found'.... and it will install the drivers that it needs all by
itself.
