I have yet to transfer data from my digital camcorder to
my PC. My PC has several 2.0 USB ports. I'm confused! Is
there any reason for me to go out and buy a 1394 cable and
install the related card? Does the transfer go any faster?
Is the data that will go into Movie Maker 2 be any clearer?

TIA, Lewis

If your camcorder has a USB2.0 port, then you can use USB, but most only
have USB1.1... this is to transfer the still images (often called photo
shots). Firewire aka iLink and IEEE1394 is the most usual way of
transferring digital video from digital camcorder to PC.

USB1.1 is far too slow for digital video... it will only result in LOTS of
dropped frames and you may be very disappointed in the result.
