Hi there,
I've had a similar problem, not with transitions, but
with speeding up individual clips. In the preview mode
they work OK for a few seconds then they're very choppy --
but, if it's any help, they did render perfectly... the
greater the speed-up, the more choppy the preview.
Finally, another thing to keep in mind re speed-ups is
that the rendering time will be "real time" (i.e.,
the "unsped-up" wallclock time) at a minimum -- though in
your case (just transitions) it may not make that much of
a difference.

I have 640 Mb Ram and Captured the video using the DVI
cord. Most of the video will play fine until it gets to
a transition or a clip that I speed up or slowed down.
As soon as that happens the preview picture quits moving,
but the sound keeps going. When I finalize the video it
works just fine. It is just difficult to see what I am
doing when I can't preview the movie properly before
finalizing. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank
you.
