Movie Maker recording only 8 seconds

I'm having a problem getting Movie Maker to record mor than 8 or 9 seconds of
video. I have the capture time limit set at 1 hour and the video I want to
record is only like 2 minutes long. I have enough space on the hard drive
(30GB) so I don't think storage is the issue. Any ideas?
 
I have a webcam connected to a USB port and the microphone connected thru the
port for the sound card.
 
That's why, MM is designed to work with digital camcorders via firewire.

Did your web cam come with any software?
 
Yes it did but I doubt I have it anymore :( if I do I guess I should install
it huh? (or I'll just break down and get a new one...)
