Movie Maker II rendering time

Is it normal for saving a movie to "Save To Computer" at
a high quality to take hours to render? It takes about8
hours for a 50 minute movie with lots of transitions,
music and editing.
 
I have an Athlon at 1Meg., 700-something RAM., 7200RPM
hard drive. I am saving as a DV-AVI. Hours and hours
later, it may finish or near the end it may lock up and
generate and error message that says an error occured and
nothing else useful.
