I posted this in the Music, Pictures, & Video section, but wanted to post it
here as well to see if anyone else had any helpful suggestions.

I just upgraded my laptop from XP Media Center edition to Vista Home Premium
and when I try to start Movie Maker I get a General Access Denied error. I
have tried to find a way to uninstall it (so that I could then re-install
it), but I guess that is not an option in Vista. Does anyone know how I can
get around this error message? Is there a way to re-install the individual
programs in Vista?

Thanks

MovieMaker depends very much on AERO, without a good DX9 Vista capable
graphics card you cannot even start Moviemaker. If it starts, ( or tries
to ) then you likely have Aero capable card built in.

Check out your videodrivers ( Ati/Nvidia/Intel ) , I never saw this error on
rtm versions.

I have the same problem. Mine was on an upgraded Windows XP Pro upgraded to
ultimate. Get the "General Access Denied Error" when I try to start Movie
Maker.

I found this, thought: If I make another Administrator user account, that
user can run Movie Maker, no problem!

Now if I can just figure out how to make my current user run it without the
error. I've tried downgrading myself to the Standard User and then upgrading
myself to an Administrator. It didn't help.

Right click on the exe and choose Run As Administrator. I have one of my
programs one function of which requires Admin access and it didn't work just
running the program (rest of the program was okay), but when I ran as Admin,
the API call that requires such access then worked.
