movie maker freezes on me

hi there can anyone help me ?
i have never used windows movie maker before, i had a go last week useing
pictures and adding music and it worked great , BUT the programe from time to
time freezes and i have to shut it down and start again , in the hope it
doesnt freeze again... im useing XP my pc is about 13 months old its not an
amazing pc but its not too bad... ive read a few articles about codecs?? or
soething like that but i have no clue what it all means...let alone what to
do..
please help..

THANKYOU John for getting back to me and i have just installed the Photo story 3.. that you said about..i will give it a try..i would like to in the futrure use video as well so id like to sort out why windows movie maker freezes on me.. i have read the papjohn link you sent me but to be honest i dont understand it..?? id not like to go messing about with things i dont understand on my pc..and changing file names ect..just in case i get it wrong.. and with my luck lately i proberly would..

but your advice has been very helpfull ..THANKYOU
