Brand new XPpro w/SP2 system. Movie Maker fails to
launch - I immediately get "Movie Maker has encountered
an error and will now close" with an apparently
operational MovieMaker interface in the background. I
choose to <Send Report> and it closes - no other
assistance or tip is offered. I found no similar incident
reported on the web.

Have you installed anything else on the machine ? Which display card do you
have ?

I did not try the Movie Maker with the system in a virgin
state - I had already installed DTP software
(Illustrator/Photoshop/FreeHand/Corel), Games (BF'42,
Medal-Honor, MS-CFS-3) and 3 other video apps
(VideoFactory 1.0, Pinnacle 8se, Ulead Video Studio 5 and
a Adobe tryout for Premiere. Also I had OEM-Preinstalls
for the Intervideo WinDVD apps. I wanted to check the
interface of XP's Movie-Maker out of curiosity and
potential ease for making "quickee web videos" for
emailing. Are you suggesting an overwrite? - Why would
the Movie Maker app "care"?

Video card in question is a Quadra4 980XGL 128MB.

Oliver-

New Info, finally got a hold of my business partner who
has the same indentical machine. He also canNOT open the
XP Movie Maker. He has less loaded on his machine however
so that kinda narrows it down to the video cards (Quadra4
980 XGL's) and Video Factory 1.0 and the IntervideoWinDVD
apps.

Hi there,

If you are referring to the free-with-computer version of Intervideo
software ..... there is a known bug with one of the dll's...iviaudio.ax,
something like that .... removal of the Intervideo software will remove the
issue ... or you can upgrade to either the latest dll/codecs from Intervideo
(around $15 - 20) or you can upgrade to the latest Intervideo program.

Take note that if you rename the dll then the program that relies on that
dll will almost certainly not work

JKelly-

Thank you for advice- I will proceed with suspect on the
Intervideo "OEM Suite" that came with the Pioneer A06.
The OEM PreInstall has 4 Intervideo components and the
file mentioned appears in 3 of the Intervideo app
directories (WCreator, WinDVD4 and
Intervideo\Common\Bin). I left a message with
Intervideo's "Cport" - but I doubt I'll hear anything.
Tomorrow I'll have to check with the system builder
(Monarch) to see if they have a solution beyond a "de-
install".
