Whn I start movie maker (this is my first time trying it), I get a message
that Movie Maker has encountered a problem and will close. If I hit the link
for "see what data this error report contains", it tells me:

AppName: moviemk.exe AppVer: 2.1.4026.0 ModName: qedit.dll
ModVer: 6.5.2600.2180 Offset: 0001a513

Please help...thanks!

I am having the same identical problem. There must be some help out there. Microsoft won't help for less than $99 (with no guarantees) to fix their own product. I am sure it not just you and I having this problem.

John did offer some help. Did you read the articles he provided links to?
Sure others are having this problem but they are also feeding us with
details as to what they did or didn't do after we offer some help.
