I'm using Canon ZR85 digital camcorder. It has cable compatible with my USB
port. When I click "capture Video" it comes back "video cap device not
detected. be sure it is installed properly...." Suggestions?

Hello,

Read your manual....USB is for still image transfer and FIREWIRE is for
video transfer....Check the help in Movie Maker....Movie Maker is designed
to use FIREWIRE only......they are cheap...go get one.

I bought a fire wire but neither end is compatible. The computer side does
not seem to be compatible with my Dell Dimension 3000 and the other end is
not compatible with my Canon. The USB IEEE1394 cable provided by Canon is
compatible but that is when I get the error. Could I need to configure the
Canon with the computer and if so, where do I find that. It does not seem to
be on Movie Maker tool bar.

Hello,

Do you have a manual for your camera?

Here is a link to the online info for your camera on the matter at hand...

http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=ModelFeaturesAct&fcategoryid=114&modelid=9739#f6

Just in case you do not go take a look at it...here is a sample of what it
says...

The IEEE1394-compliant DV terminal also lets you connect the ZR85 to a
DV-compatible computer or another Canon DV camcorder. That means you can
easily transfer your digital movies to your computer's hard disk, edit your
scenes, and then use them to create high impact Web sites, video e-mail,
interactive CDs and DVDs, or a personal video album.
Firewire IS IEEE1394.
Therefore your camera does have a firewire port. You do of course need the
firewire card as well as the cable. The card is installed in your computer
so that you can then plug the cable into it....READ YOUR MANUAL for where
it connects to your camera.

I'm having the same trouble. I go to a private highschool and we have a
project to make a movie using an interview, exept most is to be done at
home.My cmputer is a Toshiba Satellite.. the video cam is borrowed from the
school as well as the cord for USB.. so I don't have a manual or anything.
What to do???
